Episode 11. Mindfulness, Social-Emotional Development

Episode 11. Mindfulness, Social-Emotional Development

Pam Siegel and Leslie Zinberg discuss mindfulness, and Judy Laufer discusses social emotional learning. Both interviews stress the need to listen to our children and grandchildren as key to our young ones’ leading confident and resilient lives.

Episode 11 discusses two important childhood developmental issues: mindfulness and social emotional learning. I was struck as I edited the podcast that both interviews, Pam Siegel and Leslie Zinberg discussing mindfulness, and Judy Laufer discussing social emotional learning, stressed the need to listen to our children and grandchildren as key to our young ones’ leading confident and resilient lives. Please be sure to share your thoughts with me about these critical areas of child development.

Pam Siegel and Leslie Zinberg co-authored the book Grandparenting: Renew, Relive, Rejoice, 52 ways to mindfully grow and connect with your grandchildren.

Pam Siegel MPH, MFT is a licensed marriage family therapist in private practice in California. She also is a certified mindfulness therapist and implements meditation and other mindfulness tools to help her clients. Her website is www.pamsiegel.com.

Judy Laufer is the author of several children’s books and two Young Adult books. She draws on her life’s experiences and those of her family to show us the importance of resilience and the power of a positive attitude.

The horrors of the German Holocaust and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution are the backdrop for her two Young Adult titles, Choices and Hidden Pearl. Her picture books remind us of the necessity of helping our children and grandchildren to develop a healthy interpersonal skill set known as social emotional development.
